The founder of Osteopathy, Dr. A. T. Still, viewed the body as a machine and said that if one component was ailed, it would have an effect on the whole system. As classically-trained Osteopathic Manual Practitioners, we work to find the cause of the dysfunction in the body, and use our in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to remove the lesion.
The principles of osteopathy are that the body has the ability to auto-regulate and self-recover. It is the job of the practitioner through restoration of structure and therefore function to bring the body back to it's inherent ability of those principles. Osteopathy works to restore the structure of the body to improve quality of life. Osteopathy is a drug-free, non-invasive manual therapy that aims to bring health to all systems of the body by working with the musculoskeletal structure. It works with the body to regain/maintain health and wellness through gentle movements.
The body is a
dynamic unit of function, meaning it functions best with motion. Decreased motion results in stagnant fluid and can eventually lead to dis-ease. Osteopathy aims to reverse somatic dysfunction by restoring motion where it has been lost. By removing any obstructions in the vessels (nerve, blood &/or lymphatics) and restoring healthy tissue function, the practitioner can return the body to it's health baseline.
